is there any significant danger fracking could cause major eathquakes in the uk?

a little while back i read u.s companies were given the go ahead to continue their fracking here in the uk, in lancashire i believe.

the campaigners against it that said it could cause earthquakes & other dangers etc lost the opportunity to stop these companies doing it.

it keyed into my anxieties to because i live here, it can make one wonder could these processes cause a big earthquake here ?

also, does this mean u.s companies have any kind of sovereignty here, control over the uk because they can simply come here and continue their fracking anytime they want ?

Fracking and seismic activity
It is well established that fluid injection can induce small earthquakes. Typically, these are too small to be felt.
Monitoring and careful analysis of shale gas fracking is required to help understand any relationship between the injection process and seismic activity.
